A little history

Double Shoals Cotton Mill is the oldest mill in Cleveland County, North Carolina. The mill is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The original part of the mill was constructed in 1874. It remained a cotton and yarn mill until the early 1970’s; during this time a fire started and that ended the cotton mill days for this location, but the cotton mill days are not completely gone, memories of the those days remain. They can been seen in the faded areas on the floor that once held the heavy machinery and the fire door that separated the cotton room from the machinery room.
